Birders (or bird watchers) enjoy observing our wonderful range of birds in the wild. BOCA was established in 1905 as a club for people who are interested in all aspects of wild birds - not only observing them but also learning about them and acting to help conserve the environment and remove the threats that many of our native birds face.

BOCA members enjoy frequent outings with fellow birders to places of special interest around Australia. In addition our members receive a high quality magazine, have access to a range of educational activities and assist in conservation and research activities in a number of practical ways.

BOCA membership also provides free membership of your local BOCA branch. Click here for a list of our 49 regional branches and affiliates.

Join us and you will receive a Welcome Package containing:

  • One bonus issue of The Bird Observer, our popular magazine about birds and birding.
  • Free copy of The Little Blue Birdlist - a pocket checklist of the birds of the Australian mainland and Tasmania in taxonomic order. Twelve columns for your personal tick lists. Extra copies $3 posted within Australia.
  • A twenty per cent discount off one copy from a selected range of Australian bird field guides.
  • A complementary CD containing recordings of Australian Birdsongs.
  • Special members' discounts on (Ext) binoculars and (Ext) telescopes.
  • Free BOCA car sticker.

In addition you will be entitled to participate in the largest (Ext) calendar of birding activities in Australia and will gain access to "members only" sections of this web site, available by logging in on the home page.

And best of all, you will be helping to secure the future of the birds of Australia.

BOCA is keen to encourage younger people to take up this wonderful hobby, and we have a special club - Stickybeaks - just for them.

Guests and non-members are welcome to attend a couple of outings, but as a matter of courtesy and fairness we ask you to join our club after a maximum of three free outings. All events are organised by volunteers who donate their time willingly in support of BOCA. Please don't take advantage of their generosity.

Birding is fun. Come and enjoy it with BOCA by joining now!
