SightingsWe encourage reports of unusual and interesting sightings, and also trip reports (submission of trip reports on-line will be available at a later stage). An Unusual sighting is when a species is seen in a location where it does not normally occur, or at a time of year when it is not normally present. It may also involve unusual behaviour or unusual numbers of the species in question. An Interesting sighting is a sighting of a species not generally seen in that location that may be of interest to birdwatchers, but is not as significant as an Unusual sighting. Currently we are interested in reports of the following species within 60 km of central Melbourne:
Reports of Unusual and Interesting Sightings published in The Bird Observer have not all been authenticated but every effort has been made to check their accuracy. Future development of this web site will provide a facility to view the reports on-line. BOCA reserves the right to remove and/or edit reported sightings and Trip Reports.
