While walking along Lyrebird Walk from the picnic area at about 11.00am, a single Channel-billed Cuckoo was seen flying above the tree canopy and it was also viewed with binoculars. The other observer was Wendy Bewsher. John has seen the cuckoo before along the NE coast of NSW.
(Moderator's note: a report of this species in Victoria durimg his time of year would be unprecendented. The report has been published to encourage others to confirm the sighting in this area[…]

I discovered a very good vantage point for bird watching of south part of Hexham Swamps. It is in a new suburb - The Outlook (near Minmi Rd). You will have also a great view of Tank Paddock. A single A Bittern was flying slowly above the swamp along a clump of melaleuca trees. A large flock (52 birds) of raptors was circling over the swamp - mostly Whistling Kite (35), Swamp Harrier (10), Wedge-tailed Eagle (3), White-belled Sea-eagle (2)[…]

[Moderator note: The photos have been put on the NT Birds forum and certainly appear to be Eurasian Tree Sparrows. CW.]

Brown Honeyeater (1) Clamorous, strident call tipped me off to its presence in two large flowering Eucalypts (E. citriodora) in our yard. Was being constantly chased off by a range of 'locals' (White-plumed H/E, Yellow-throated Miner) but continued to return to feed throughout the morning. Calls played from both 'Birds in Backyards' and 'Xeno Canto' put i.d. beyond doubt. Was a little rusty on the call having not seen one in S.A. since late April 2005 in Pipalyatjara, some further[…]
