Welcome to BirdLife Australia!

As of 1 January 2012, BOCA has merged with Birds Australia to become BirdLife Australia. The new BirdLife Australia website will go live in early February, and until then the current BOCA site will continue to be available.

At BirdLife Australia we are dedicated to achieving outstanding conservation results for our native birds and their habitats. With our specialised knowledge and the commitment of an Australia-wide network of members, volunteers and supporters, we are creating a bright future for Australia’s birds. Look out for our new website from February 2012 at birdlife.org.au

Come Birding

We encourage people to look at birds - after all our name is Bird Observation & Conservation Australia, and whilst we put a lot of effort into conservation and education that is based in many cases on the knowledge and experience we gain from our members who actually go out and look at birds.

Many people like to come birding on a BOCA activity, which gives you the chance to go out with fellow birders for a friendly and sociable activity at which you will probably learn something new about birds or the local area, make new friends and maybe even see some new birds! Whilst you are travelling around Australia you may wish to contact our branches who can often help you with information about the latest local sightings and updates on good places to bird.

If you wish to go birding by yourself or with some friends then you may find the information on our Birding Locations useful to give you some ideas on where to go, along with our range of books and CDs and links to organisations in the region you are visiting. You may also find out where other people are seeing birds by looking at the information from the various birdlines and in the trip reports that our members post. The Bird Observer contains advertisements for 3rd party tours and accommodation which you may find helpful in planning your own birding activities. However, BOCA relies on the integrity of the advertisers for the quality and nature of their services and does not necessarily endorse the services advertised.

Whatever you do, BOCA requests that you adhere to BOCA's Code of Ethical Birding as, at all times, the birds come first.
